About Us

Tiimely is a platform technology company leading the future of financial assessment through predictive and explainable AI, and configurable, API-led solutions. Our proprietary technology automates financial assessment and credit decisioning, enabling faster, more accurate outcomes across a range of use cases, and is licensed by large banks, fintechs, ASX-listed brands and our own in-house retail business, Tiimely Home.

Headquartered in Adelaide with a national team of 130, we’re on a mission to transform how Australians access credit through cutting-edge technology and a human-first approach. As a certified B Corp, our values — Time to be Human, Time to Take Responsibility, Time to be Transparent, and Time to Build Good Bonds — shape how we build products and how we work together.

The Position

We need Database Engineers who can independently support and evolve the data platforms that underpin our regulated fintech products. As a Database Engineer at Tiimely, you’ll be responsible for the design, support, optimisation, and continuous improvement of relational and document database platforms that support our web, integration, credit decisioning, and data capabilities. Your primary focus will be Microsoft SQL Server, with exposure to document database technologies such as MongoDB and DynamoDB.

You’ll work closely with software engineers, architects, data specialists, and product stakeholders to ensure our database platforms are reliable, performant, and aligned with platform architecture and business needs. Our platform processes real credit applications in a regulated financial services context, understanding how database design supports lending workflows, compliance, and operational resilience is part of what makes this role distinctive.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design, support, maintain, and optimise database solutions, primarily in Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Contribute to relational database design, ER modelling, and schema evolution for new and existing systems.
  • Support document database usage where required, including platforms such as MongoDB and DynamoDB.
  • Write, review, and tune SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and contribute to monitoring, maintenance, optimisation, backup, recovery, and operational support practices.
  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks, capacity concerns, and operational risks before they impact customers or teams.
  • Contribute to CI/CD processes, database version control, and release coordination for database changes.
  • Participate in code reviews and collaborative design discussions relating to schema, queries, and data access patterns.
  • Work across squads to support database changes and understand how application and integration changes affect the data layer.
  • Apply best practices in database security, access control, auditing, and data protection.
  • Ensure database changes and operational practices align with the expectations of a regulated financial services environment.
  • Stay current with emerging database technologies, patterns, and best practices, and share knowledge with peers.

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Demonstrated experience in a Database Engineer, Database Developer, or similar mid-level role.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Solid SQL development capability, including query writing, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
  • Sound understanding of ER modelling and relational database design principles.
  • Demonstrated database administration capability across monitoring, maintenance, optimisation, backup, and operational support.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD processes, source control, and collaborative engineering practices such as code reviews.
  • Thorough debugging, diagnostics, and problem-solving capability.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Genuine interest in database engineering best practices and continued growth in the database space.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of other relational database platforms such as PostgreSQL.
  • Exposure to NoSQL or document databases such as MongoDB and DynamoDB.
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as RDS and related data platform services.
  • Ability to read and modify application code such as C# or Python where needed for investigation or delivery support.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Liquibase for database version control and schema deployment.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to enhance database engineering productivity or problem-solving.
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or another regulated environment.

What’s In It For You?

  • Competitive remuneration package with employee share plans that reward individual and company success.
  • Flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options.
  • Ongoing learning and development to support your professional growth.
  • A modern office environment designed for a scaling fintech.
  • A supportive and inclusive team culture backed by our B Corp certification and values-driven approach.
