Introduction

Your Impact:

As a full time, Cafeteria Manager, you will be responsible for

  • Managing the daily café and catering operations, including food preparation, Barista service, delivery and Point of Sale tasks for the Good Sammy Canning Vale Cafeteria, and other staff functions.
  • Developing a corporate catering menu and work with the Marketing Team to develop commercial catering offerings to businesses in City of Canning area and Good Sammy partners.
  • Stock control, procurement, food safety compliance, hygiene standards and general cleaning requirements.
  • Supervision and training of Supported staff employed in the Good Sammy Cafeteria in all aspects of catering including food preparation, cooking methods, kitchen hygiene and customer service.
  • Managing the budget of the cafeteria to ensure budget targets are met annually is an important part of this role.


Description

What you'll do:

  • Manage the Cafeteria budget to ensure operations are conducted in a financially sustainable manner while maintaining quality standards.
  • Prepare, cook and serve a variety of hot and cold foods for morning tea and lunch. 
  • Lead the development and growth of commercial catering services, including identifying market opportunities and partnerships.
  • Lead negotiations with preferred suppliers to secure competitive pricing and favourable commercial terms, ensuring value for money while maintaining quality and service standards.
  • Review the Internal Catering pricing to ensure consistency and competitiveness with external cafeterias.
  • Plan and coordinate menu planning and review of pricing, including benchmarking against similar organisations.
  • Supervise and support Supported staff during service hours and foster a positive and inclusive work environment that helps in skill development and confidence. This includes helping staff achieve their employment goals and having a strong focus on increasing the number of people with disability achieving training, certification and experience as baristas, and in customer service, in food preparation and operating the cash till register.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support special events or catering requests.
  • Monitor stock levels and place orders for supplies as needed, to ensure stock rotation, cost savings and minimising waste.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety regulations and organisational policies, including proper storage, temperature control, and cleanliness of all food preparation areas. This includes taking a proactive role on health and safety in consultation with the Quality and Safeguarding Team, and relevant authorities.
  • Conduct regular reviews of training needs and performance for Supported staff, providing constructive feedback and development opportunities, including building participants towards hospitality courses.


Skills And Experiences

What you'll bring:

  • Experience in cafe, restaurant or catering.
  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate preferred but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety (HACCP) and WHS practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive customer (internal and external) relations.
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of financial budget requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Proven team leadership and support capabilities.
  • Confidence in utilising technology and Point of Sale system
