Senior Data Engineer (Must hold active NV-1 Clearance)
6 Months
Melbourne (Hybrid Working)
$900-$950 p/d
About the opportunity:
A well-regarded technology consultancy is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a client-embedded engagement for six months. You'll be hands-on across the full data stack, building pipelines, tuning platform performance, and shipping production-ready data products.
What you'll be doing:
- Build and maintain data pipelines across batch and streaming, covering ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and observability, to feed analytics, BI, and API consumers.
- Work across Databricks and Snowflake environments, writing and optimising queries, transformations, and data models at scale.
- Take solution designs from concept to production, with a focus on performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
- Work directly with client engineers, analysts, and stakeholders, clarifying requirements, diagnosing issues, and making sound implementation calls together.
- Write tests (unit, integration, data quality) and clear technical documentation covering lineage, standards, and operational runbooks.
- Contribute to code reviews and technical direction without carrying people-management responsibility.
- Use AI-assisted tooling and agentic workflows where they genuinely help, while exercising the engineering judgment to know when to trust the output.
What we need to see: - 5+ years in data or software engineering
- Proven delivery on Databricks and/or Snowflake
- Strong Python/PySpark and SQL for scalable pipelines
- Hands-on with ETL/ELT and modern orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt, Kafka or similar)
- Solid grasp of data modelling, governance, and quality
- Comfortable in client-facing or consulting environments
- Pragmatic approach to CI/CD and engineering best practice
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical stakeholders without relying on authority
Bonus points: - Databricks Data Engineer Professional certification
- Snowflake SnowPro Core certification
