The Database Administrator provides senior‑level operational and technical support for enterprise Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL environments across on‑premises and cloud platforms. The role is responsible for ensuring database availability, performance, security, and reliability for business‑critical systems, while acting as a key escalation point for complex incidents.
Responsibilities include installing, configuring, patching, upgrading, monitoring, and maintaining databases and related platforms, including Oracle OCI Exadata (RAC, Data Guard, TDE) and AWS RDS PostgreSQL. The role performs routine operational tasks such as backups, restores, refreshes, data extracts, and disaster recovery testing, and leverages automation, scripting, and enterprise monitoring tools to improve service outcomes.
The Database Administrator works closely with technical and project teams to provide guidance on best practices, architecture, and database design, contributes to standards and documentation, supports change and release management, and mentors team members. Participation in an on‑call roster and support for operational and business projects may be required.
Demonstrated experience administering Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL databases in large‑scale enterprise environments supporting both production and non‑production systems.
Strong hands‑on experience with Oracle databases on‑premises and in the cloud, including Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Exadata services such as RAC, Oracle Data Guard, and Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
Proven experience administering AWS RDS, particularly PostgreSQL, including backup, restore, performance tuning, and availability management.
Extensive experience in database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, monitoring, and lifecycle management for enterprise database platforms.
Solid experience investigating and resolving database performance, availability, and security incidents, acting as a senior or third‑level support escalation point.
Strong skills in database automation and scripting, including Linux and Windows scripting, PL/SQL, and T‑SQL to support operational efficiency.
Hands‑on experience performing database backups, restores, refreshes, re‑organisations, data extracts, and supporting high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
Practical experience using enterprise database tools, including Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control, Quest TOAD, Oracle SQL Developer, and Microsoft tools such as SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS.
Demonstrated experience supporting change and release management, including participation in on‑call rosters and after‑hours operational support where required.
Experience raising and managing vendor support requests with Oracle and Microsoft and working through complex technical resolution processes.
Ability to provide technical advice, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to database team members and contribute to the development of operational procedures, standards, and policies.
Experience working across both public and private sector environments is highly desirable, particularly in complex, highly governed enterprise settings.
