Your business

Legal and Group Secretariat is responsible for delivering an integrated and consistent approach to CBA’s external and internal legal risk management and corporate governance.

Your team

The Accountability Regime Team (ART) works alongside the SpeakUP team to support CBA’s strategy by building customer trust in CBA through promoting accountability and upholding integrity.

The ART and SpeakUP team are part of Legal and Group Secretariat. The ART plays a critical role in supporting CBA and its Accountable Persons to comply with the Financial Accountability Regime (FAR). The FAR is a legislative regime which, among other things, establishes accountability obligations for banks and their senior executives and directors.

The ART is supported by a FAR lawyer from CBA’s Legal team.

Your impact and contribution

Reporting into the Head of FAR, you will contribute by effectively administering and maintaining CBA’s FAR framework.

On any given day you will:

  • Maintain CBA’s FAR framework, which includes a policy, procedures, templates, training and guidance materials, and other resources.
  • Assist with CBA’s FAR notifications relating to the registration/de-registration of Accountable Persons, and updates to Accountability Statements and the Accountability Map.
  • Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and/or deliver FAR training to CBA’s Accountable Persons and other senior stakeholders.
  • Conduct reviews of Accountable Persons’ frameworks for complying with the FAR.
  • Provide considered and pragmatic advice and guidance to CBA’s Accountable Persons and their teams on the FAR and CBA’s FAR framework.
  • Promote accountability in line with CBA’s values, including through supporting a deep understanding of accountability across the CBA Group.
  • Manage the identification, triage and escalation of potential breaches of the FAR accountability obligations and engagement with senior stakeholders and Legal as needed.
  • Contribute to ART’s management of its risks, including its controls and compliance arrangements.
  • Help shape and implement the ART and SpeakUP team strategy.
  • Contribute to an engaged and inclusive culture within ART and the SpeakUP team, and Legal and Group Secretariat more broadly.

Your experience looks like:

  • 7+ years’ experience in law, governance, regulatory change, compliance or risk management.
  • Tertiary qualifications in law, business or another relevant field.
  • Knowledge of, and practical experience working with the FAR, or a similar regulatory regime
  • Ability to influence and build trust with senior leaders.
  • Contributed to developing and implementing compliance frameworks, policies and practices within complex regulatory environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage risks and compliance obligations.  
  • Complex problem-solving and analytical skills, and high attention to detail.
