Your part in the Blue Care Team
Blue Care operate over 32 retirement villages across Queensland, with more than 3,300 residents choosing to make a Blue Care communities their home. Our welcoming cafe within a vibrant retirement community at Carina is looking for a creative, reliable and skilled Cook to join their team on a Permanent part time basis.
Reporting to the Village Manager, this is a great opportunity for a friendly, energetic and community minded Cook to work in a welcoming retirement living cafe. This role is more than preparing food and coffee — we are looking for someone who can help make the café the social heart of our village.
The café is an important gathering place for residents, families, and visitors, and we are seeking someone who enjoys creating connections, encouraging conversation, and building a warm and welcoming environment where people feel comfortable to socialise and mingle.
You will be responsible for:
Preparing and serving quality barista coffee and beverages
Preparing simple café meals, snacks, sandwiches, and light lunches
Reheating and presenting meals
Maintaining cleanliness, food safety, and café presentation
Providing friendly and attentive customer service
Building strong relationships with residents and visitors
Creating a welcoming atmosphere that encourages residents to gather, socialise, and enjoy the café experience
Promoting daily specials, themed mornings, coffee catch-ups, and small social activities
Encouraging resident participation and increasing café visitation and engagement
What makes a difference for us
We are particularly looking for someone who understands the importance of social connection within an aged care and retirement community. You will bring ideas to increase café activity and make the space inviting and vibrant. You will ideally have:
Experience in hospitality, cafés, or food service
Barista experience preferred
A warm, outgoing, and compassionate personality
Strong communication and people skills
Confidence working independently in a small café environment
Initiative and creativity in promoting customer engagement
A genuine interest in working with older people and fostering community connections
