About the role

The Consultant/Senior Consultant within Metabolic Medicine manages high-quality inpatient and outpatient metabolic services, ensuring patients are managed with evidence-based care and confidentiality. The Consultant/Senior Consultant provides follow-up and outreach care, supports education and research, fosters teamwork, and participates in after-hours emergency on-call duties as required.

Key duties of the role

  • Provide a consultant service to inpatients and outpatients of health units serviced by the Metabolic Department, including outreach clinics.
  • Coordinate appropriate follow up care of patients and their relatives.
  • Participate in an emergency after hours on-call roster for patient care, both public and private, as required.
  • Participate in clinical review programmes and monitor standards of practice.
  • Develop internal and external partnerships to support quality patient needs and outcomes.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent.
  • Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award.
  • Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or have had equivalent qualifications recognised by the RACP.
  • At least 2 years of direct clinical experience in Metabolic Medicine.
  • Experience in a large public hospital and in community settings.
  • Knowledge of the scientific basis of metabolic medicine.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing a quality service to the patient.
