Introduction

Warrah is a disability services provider, based in North West Sydney. Inspired by the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, Warrah has been offering quality supports and services for adults and children living with disability for over 50 years. Warrah is a vibrant community, enriching the lives of individuals through our broad range of services, which include Supported Independent Living (SIL), Community Support Services (CSS) and Warrah Specialist School. We also have a certified Biodynamic Farm and Farm Shop. 

We currently have a casual vacancy for regular shifts and occasional Saturday shifts for the same candidate. Applicants must be available to regularly (4 - 5 days per week) work between the hours of 7am and 3pm. 



Description

Area of Responsibility

Warrah operates a bakery producing small batches of artisanal, long-fermented sourdough. The bread is sold through the Farm Shop and seasonal produce box subscriptions. The bakery, Farm Shop, and packing room all provide opportunities for Warrah Society participants to engage in meaningful work experience.

As a Baker, you will be responsible for planning, preparing, and baking high-quality breads in accordance with Warrah’s produce standards. As a Retail Assistant, you will work in the shop, delivering friendly and helpful customer service to both the Warrah community and the wider public. You will represent Warrah’s organic and biodynamic products with enthusiasm and professionalism.

Working closely with a small team of staff, Warrah participants with disability, and volunteers, the Baker and Retail Assistant acts as an ambassador for Warrah—demonstrating knowledge of biodynamic farming and supporting the Farm’s positive relationship with the public. The role also includes administrative tasks to ensure the efficient running of the bakery and Farm Shop.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and bake sourdough bread and other products in line with menus and quality standards.
  • Operate ovens, manage baking times/temperatures, and ensure consistent output.
  • Monitor and maintain bakery stock, supplies, inventory, and accounts within budget.
  • Clean and maintain bakery equipment in line with safety protocols.
  • Plan baking quantities based on shop, wholesale, and internal orders.
  • Collaborate with support workers to involve Warrah participants in bakery activities.
  • Provide high-quality customer service, including unpacking, sorting, picking, packing, and merchandising.
  • Support individuals with disability to participate in bakery and shop activities.
  • Maintain accurate records, systems, and effective communication within the team.
  • Adhere to WHS standards and perform manual handling/lifting as required.
  • Carry out other duties as directed.


Skills And Experiences

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Some experience and passion for baking sourdough bread is required. Training can be provided to the right candidate.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with a friendly and respectful manner
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • Creative merchandising skills, with a flair for visual presentation
  • Ability to work flexibly and effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Good administrative and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to operate a cash register and use stock control software/spreadsheets
  • Suitable level of physical fitness
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills
  • Current NSW C Class Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to engage empathically with people with disabilities
  • Knowledge of, or interest in, biodynamic farming and the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner (or willingness to learn)
  • Knowledge of or an interest and willingness to learn biodynamic farming and the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner (or willingness to acquire)
