As per the SMOEA 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-months allocation to Advanced Trainee Metabolic Medicine will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills, and capabilities.

About the role
The Advanced Trainee provides inpatient and outpatient metabolic medicine care within WCHN under Consultant supervision. Working within the Metabolic Clinic, the role supports paediatric patients with inborn errors of metabolism and their families, while undertaking advanced RACP training and contributing to teaching, research and professional development activities.
Key duties of the role
- Provide inpatient and outpatient care for paediatric patients with metabolic conditions under supervision.
- Coordinate follow-up care and maintain accurate, high-quality clinical documentation.
- Support patients and families through multidisciplinary, patient-centred care delivery.
- Participate in undergraduate, postgraduate and departmental teaching and training activities.
- Contribute to research, quality improvement and professional development initiatives within the Metabolic Unit.
Skills and Experience
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) registrable with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completion of RACP Basic Paediatric Training and recognised Advanced Trainee status.
- Sound clinical skills in paediatrics appropriate to level of training.
- Strong communication, teamwork and clinical decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently, adapt to changing clinical needs and support patient-centred care.
