The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of the largest providers of homelessness services across the country. Our philosophy is that every person should be afforded dignity and respect and that no one should be without a safe, affordable, and secure home. We provide services and supports to adults, and families with accompanying children in the form of accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral services.

About the role

As a Kitchen Hand, this is your opportunity to be part of the Homelessness Melbourne Metro Regional Catering team that provide services to Resident service sites at Flagstaff Accommodation in West Melbourne, The Open Door in North Melbourne and Foley House in Footscray.

Reporting to the Catering Services Team Leader, this is a Casual role, located at our Flagstaff Crisis Accommodation in West Melbourne.

How you will make an impact

  • Undertake kitchen hand duties as directed which ensures that the kitchen area complies with the minimum Health Department standards.
  • Provide all services in such a way as to respect the rights and dignity of residents.
  • Provide quality food and kitchen services which meets or exceeds staff and residents’ food and service requirement

What you will bring

Remove points that are not relevant to the role

  • Experience in a residential setting and a Food Handlers Certificate (Desirable)
  • Certificate 1 in Hospitality Kitchen Operations (or equivalent) or demonstrated equivalent relevant experience, knowledge and skills
  • A current Working with Children Check or relevant state equivalent is a mandatory requirement
  • Victorian Drivers Licence

Compensation is in accordance with Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award Level 1
