Every plate has the potential to create a memory that lasts a lifetime for our guests. At Koomo, Adelaide’s highest restaurant located within Crowne Plaza Adelaide, we draw inspiration from Japanese and broader Asian flavours, paired with the best local seasonal produce.
To bring this vision to life, we’re looking for a Part-Time Commis Chef with a passion for presentation, a dedication to flavour, and a commitment to excellence—from prep bench to plate.
If you have experience in Japanese or Asian cuisine and are ready to be part of a tight-knit, high-performing kitchen team, this could be the perfect next step in your culinary journey.
A little taste of your day-to-day:
You’ll have a genuine drive to grow your culinary career and refine your skills, particularly in Japanese and Asian cuisine. You'll work with premium, local seasonal produce to create beautifully presented dishes that highlight traditional flavours with a modern twist—while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, safety, and guest service.
Every day is different, but you’ll mostly be:
Preparing and presenting Japanese-inspired dishes with precision, creativity, and consistency
Ensuring quality and authenticity in every dish, from sushi and sashimi to hot dishes and sauces
Keeping up to date with new recipes, ingredients, and techniques in Japanese and Asian fusion cooking
Maintaining a clean, organised, and well-stocked work area in line with hygiene regulations
Pitching in with team duties as needed—including cleaning, prep, or assisting other sections
What we need from you:
At Crowne Plaza Adelaide, our goal is to make business travel work. We look for people who are dynamic, confident, and ambitious—those who excel in their role and help our guests succeed too!
You will also have:
Commercial Cookery qualification and 1-2 years previous culinary experience
Previous experience working with Japanese or Asian cuisine is essential
An understanding of HACCP and the ability to comply with local food handling laws
Great communication skills—you’ll be warm, welcoming, and easy to talk to
A good grasp of reading, writing, and basic maths
The strength to lift, push, and pull objects up to 23 kg, including bending and kneeling
Flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster—nights, weekends, and public holidays included
Compliance with food safety standards—must hold a valid Food Safety Certificate
Legal eligibility to work in Australia without limitations or restrictions
